FAQs COVID-19 Impact

Published Fri 20 Mar 2020

Dear Members,

Following this week’s communication from Water Polo NSW and the closing of summer competitions early due to the current COVID-19 situation, we would like to provide you all with answers to some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) that we are receiving.

If you have an enquiry that isn't covered in the information below, contact the WPNSW office via enquiries@waterpolonsw.org.au. We will endeavour to respond to all enquiries within a reasonable time frame.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will registration fees be refunded?

Water Polo NSW is currently reviewing the financial impact of incomplete seasons on the sport. An update on this will be provided in May when a clearer picture of the shut-down period is available.

It is important to note that the winter season and events have been postponed and not yet cancelled.

The patience and understanding of members in the interim as we deal with these unprecedented events is appreciated.

Can we keep running Water Polo as a Club or Association?

Whilst each club and association are their own legal identity and responsible for making its own decisions, WPNSW strongly advises all activities are suspended until further notice.

This advice has been the result of considerable consultation with relevant expert bodies and places the health and wellbeing of our community and the broader public as the number one priority.

What will be the impact on STP Selection?

Changes to this year’s STP program allow for multiple entry points into squad and team selections.

WPNSW is aware of the impact that suspending development camps, finals, and State Club Championships has on individuals and clubs hoping to be selected in a State squad.

WPNSW is working on an updated schedule for when the sport returns to allow opportunities for athletes to gain selection. This schedule will be released once a clearer understanding of the closure period is at hand.

What is happening with State Club Championships?

At present the Championships is postponed and WPNSW will work with our venues on providing alternate opportunity to conduct the championships.

At the moment there is too much uncertainty to provide a clearer picture of what to expect but WPNSW will be in contact with club presidents and secretaries to provide options as soon as possible.

How do we stay up to date with changes?

Water Polo NSW will continue to provide updates as government advice and circumstances change. These updates will be communicated on our website, social media pages and via email.
