Historic NWPL Venue Returns

With the installation of a new pontoon and new lighting, Dawn Fraser Baths are now better then ever.

Michael Hart and Noel Harrod inspected the new facilities for Balmain, on 13th December. From this inspection, it is official that Dawn Fraser Baths is a technically correct venue for the National Water Polo League (NWPL) matches and acceptable to refereeing standards.

The Board of Water Polo New South Wales (WPNSW) supports the recommendation of Water Polo Australia (WPA) that Dawn Fraser Pool be returned to the list of approved NWPL venues for day matches. Once the new lighting has been inspected and tested, it may also be used for night games.

President of UTS Balmain Water Polo, Phil Bower, is extremely happy to have Balmain able to play their National League Games at their historic home venue!

During the inspection of the pontoon at Dawn Fraser Pool, Noel Harrod and Michael Hart referred a Sydney First Grade match. Both referees were happy with the installation of the boom, and agreed that it was a good thing for Balmain Water Polo. A time out was called during this game and players, coaches and the referee were able to stand comfortably and remain stable.

WPAs Manager of Events and Competitions, Noel Harrod claimed, “From a referee’s point of view, the boom is the perfect height, extremely stable and better than any other NWPL pool in Australia.” Chairman of WPA, Michael Hart stated, “The boom is a good thing, it allows for referees to referee normally. It was very stable, even a big fella like myself found it very comfortable”.

WPNSW would like to congratulate Leichardt Council and UTS Balmain Water Polo club on the fantastic work that they have done, to allow for the opportunity for NWPL to be reinstated to Balmain.

Welcome back Tigers!
