Interview with Aussie Shark Nathan Power

We recently caught up with Aussie Sharks Co-Captain Nathan Power about his recent experience on tour.
Nathan shared with us how it feels to represent Australia and some highlights of the tour including the FINA World Championships, World League and visiting Paris for the first time ahead of the 2024 Olympics.
How did you feel about representing Australia as co-captain at the FINA World Championships?
The feeling is a very special one. Getting to represent your country in any competition is a special thing that I cherish dearly. To now be one of the leaders for this team is an honour that I am grateful for and I recognise the responsibility that comes along with it.
What was your highlight of the tournament in the pool?
I would say the highlight of this years Aussie Sharks tour was our world league tournament. Unlike a normal international competition calendar, this year the world league tournament followed the world champs rather than preceding it. This made the world league the culmination of our tour, and I was proud to see how we played as I felt it showed the growth that this young group had undergone across this first year of the new Olympic cycle.
What was your highlight of the tour out of the pool?
Getting the opportunity to see Paris was pretty cool. Not only had I never been there before, but the city is now even more meaningful for us given that is where the 2024 Olympics will be held.
What is your advice to athletes aspiring to represent Australia?
The main thing is that you need to be enjoying what you do. To succeed in any sport, the commitment that is required is immense and is something that will push you mentally and physically. For me the enjoyment factor needs to be there, and that is something I get from the mateships that water polo has afforded me.
Thanks Nathan for sharing your experiences with us and inspiring the next generation!
