Mental Health Month: A message from Wellbeing Manager, Katrina

Published Tue 25 Oct 2022

Mental fatigue will impact performance!

Mental fatigue or exhaustion can happen when your brain receives too much continual stimulation or has to maintain intense level of activity without rest.

All athletes no matter how experienced, need time to reset and recharge or they will be at mental fatigue risk.

If you are an athlete that has lost your zest for training, feel increasingly unmotivated, constantly tired, notice changes in your concentration, increased displays of emotion & stress…You are demonstrating mental fatigue!

IT IS TIME TO REVIEW REASONS WHY AND MAKE CHANGES

Tip: Manage your sporting experience as a holistic athlete. Collaborate with your coach to create your individual training plan that includes time for wellbeing activities, monitoring of mental fatigue, rest & recovery, nutrition and your study and work commitments. Let your support team know all your needs in and out of sport.

Be brave to speak up to your coach, employee, teacher when you need adjustments to your weekly schedule. Remember, it is about you having a positive sporting experience and mental health matters!

Water Polo NSW through the support of NSW Health are able to offer all members the opportunity to complete the Mental First Aid course. Click here for more information and to register your expression of interest to complete the course.
