Dear NSW Water Polo Community,
WPNSW would like to update everyone on the current Covid-19 situation and the potential impact it may have on our season. The current Covid climate is unlike anything we as a state have had to face over the past 2 years. While case numbers are high it is reassuring to see that hospitalisations and ICU admissions are low and manageable by our health system. WPNSW is in support of our NSW government and their reassessment of conditions to try and bring a ‘covid norm’ to our lives. With that said WPNSW wants to ensure that our actions fall inline with the current rules and regulations and do not promote undue risks to our community.
Currently all states and WPA are reviewing the situation and discussing the best way to proceed in regards to the Summer Slam in Brisbane. Please be rest assured that WPNSW is taking into consideration the impact to our young players due to covid over the past 2yrs as well as the risks under the current climate. WPNSW will keep our community informed of developments as they happen, the next update is likely to be on the 5th January.
Without trying to anticipate the decision WPNSW will be working overtime to ensure the safety of our community and that any decision is made with the best intentions for our members and our sport;
- If the Summer Slam proceeds with NSW teams strict covid protocols will be in place to ensure the safety of our teams. These protocols will be shared to all players, guardians, and team officials prior to the competition.
- If the Summer Slam does not proceed or NSW teams cannot participate WPNSW will have a local option made available for all players and officials.
- WPNSW will respect those individuals involved in the Summer Slam will make their own determination on the risks involved. WPNSW will respect this and support those decisions.
It is unfortunate that Covid continues to provide challenges but as a community we will work together to provide the most opportunities to our community while minimising the risks.
Kind regards,
Alex Godbold
