Sydney Northern Rays Inaugural Sydney Metro Title!

Published Thu 08 Sep 2022

As we wrap up the winter season, we congratulate Sydney Northern Rays on their inaugural Sydney Metropolitan title in the M16B Winter Division!

Rays placed second on the ladder at the conclusion of the regular season games which would advance them to the grand final against UNSW Wests. Having lost to their opponents earlier in the season, Rays were determined to rectify the outcome this time round.

In the tightly contested grand final, which was settled by a penalty shootout, Rays were able to come out on top, nine goals to eight. Sydney Northern Rays are our competitions newest club, and this first title is a sign of the growing depth in our state’s junior athletes and competitions.

This success was continued with outstanding results from their Opens M4 and M5 teams, finishing second and fourth respectively. This winter season was a perfect opportunity for our newer clubs with developing athletes to test themselves against our seasoned clubs.

Congratulations to Rays coaches, Megan Shaw and Jason Park, and all the Sydney Northern Rays players on the club’s inaugural title. We hope to see similar success for the upcoming summer season!

Around the other grades we saw UTS Balmain claim a clean sweep of the W14A, W16A and W18 titles whist in the M18 division we similarly saw Sydney Northern Beaches Breakers claim the title with a penalty shootout win against Sydney University.
